Weight and Work

Sam Just chilling

Sam finally made it, he reached over the 1 stone mark. To Nicola and I, this has been a huge milestone. Sam had been bumbling along the lowest part of the growth chart his whole little life. He would average a weight gain of around 120 grams per week, however under guidance of our consultant in Holles Street, we started adding full fat butter ( unsalted ) cream, olive oil and full fat yogurt to all Sams spoon feeds. He shot up to putting on over 250 grams per week!.

Avocados are a wonder fruit. Usually Sam would have 8 - 10 spoons at feeding time before we added in the new items to his diet. Now with avocado based meals he can have up to 20 - 30 spoons per feed ( We count a spoon as a small amount of food on it, not a fully loaded spoon ) We add in ripe avocados, butter, and yogurt. Other recipes he loves is spaghetti or a sunday roast ( blended of course ) We are slowly trying to integrate spoons feeds more instead of bottles. If your are looking for great spoon feeding recipes check out Anna Karmels books.

On Wednesday we had a family day out to Glendalough. Sam loves being outdoors, the fresh air, sight and sounds of nature. He was continually craning his neck to see and listen to what was going on. A new family tradition was started. Each year we want to return to the beach at the upper lake to take a photo with the little man, then put it together into a video for his 18th birthday.

 Sam and his Daddy

Sam and his Daddy

Thursday was a another milestone for our little family. Nicola had to go back to work and this meant, as i work from home, that I would be minding Sam. At first i was thinking it will be grand, get up when he normally gets up, feed him, then let him drift back to sleep for an hour or so after that and get some work done. Well it didn't happen. He decided to stay awake and had a bad case of "Pick me up itis" So i only got about 10 minutes of work done. Im not complaining though. We got through tons of play time and physiotherapy. Sam Loves being up on my shoulders which is great for his core muscle development. I was also getting him to roll over and sit up un aided. Cant wait for Sam to start crawling!

Onwards and upwards!
